How can I get rid of hives?” If you have ever asked yourself that question, you must know how difficult it is to find a workable solution for this problem. This article will list natural remedies, types of medical treatment and presentational means that you can use to successfully get rid of hives at home.

Medically known as uriticaria, hives are an itchy, red skin rash that appears on your skin that may disappear and reappear elsewhere several times throughout the day. From small pen-sized patches to rashes that cover large areas of your body, this condition is a source of huge discomfort, and arms, legs, neck, armpits, and abdomen are the most likely spots of its onset.

If you want to know how you can get rid of hives, keep reading for some of the steps that can help you alleviate your problem.

Chronic Hives

When the most glaring symptoms of the condition are present daily for over six weeks, it’s considered to be a case of chronic hives. The situation is made more complicated by the fact that doctors are often unable to pinpoint the underlying issues that have prompted the rash, in which case the causes are labeled as idiopathic.

The most straightforward and effective way of getting rid of hives from the comfort of your home is resolving the problem that caused it in the first place.

How Can I Get Rid of Hives Caused by Allergies?

A very likely cause of hives is an allergic reaction. To deal with such cases, you should try to eliminate the reason for your allergies. Be it food, drinks, a pet, someone’s perfume, chemical substances in the air or something else entirely, take active steps to avoid it. Alternatively, you can take anti-allergic medication prescribed by a doctor.

However, not all cases are as easy to deal with. There is no simple answer to treating idiopathic uriticaria, because every individual case is different and requires its own unique solution. To get rid of hives that are brought on by causes you’re not specifically aware of, you can try some of the following forms of treatment.

Natural Remedies to get rid of hives

Oils are known to provide some relief to the strong itching sensation usually caused by hives. The soothing effect of sandalwood, lavender and chamomile will make a big difference to those who have suffered from this condition for a prolonged amount of time.

Another useful advice for those who want to know how can they get rid of hives naturally is to pay more attention to your diet. Uriticaria outbreaks are usually brought on by a disturbance in the bacterial balance of your body, and resolving it can provide an effective remedial effect.

Medical Urticaria Treatment

Even though the medical solution to each case can be very different, using both ranitidine and cetirizine has show to provide a lasting solution to get rid of hives. Prednisone is also mentioned as an effective medication for hive treatment, but the side effects that present themselves after its prolonged use deter most people from its continued use.

If you’re going for a soothing effect, antihistamines can effectively decrease swelling and redness, saving you from the incredibly strong itching that plagues most people who suffer from hives.

Prevention of Hives

Make sure that you avoid the following things that can potentially cause hives.

  • Sudden changes of temperature.
  • Excessive use of alcohol.
  • Using too much medications, such as aspirin.
  • Insufficient sleep and stress.
  • Extreme changes of your usual diet.

Since 20% of people are subjected to an outbreak of hives at some point in their lives, it’s important to minimize their risk at all times. Keep your immune system strong and have a balanced diet that would supply your body’s natural defence mechanisms with all the required nutrients and vitamins. Heed this advice and you will never have to ask how can you get rid of hives.

Also can you tell me if I should keep taking Antihistamine along with the protocol. I can’t live without it :S

    • Admin says:

Hi, yes you can continue taking the antihistamine if you want too, but only take them if you get an outbreak instead of taking them as a preventative measure.

    Hi Paulette,
Indian diet involves use of whole wheat a lot in chappati. I have purchased whole wheat unbleached flour. Can I take this. Also tell if I cam take gluten free flour instead of whole wheat but I m not sure if gluten free flours are bleached or unbleached.

    • Admin says:

Yes unbleached flour is OK to use. If you are suffering from chronic urticaria white/ bleached flour should be avoided whenever possible.
Gluten free flour is great to use, it’s not bleached and in many cases is actually derived from rice, which is perfect.
      Hope that helps.

Hello my name is Jackie. I have chronic hives I’m only 21 ): I have a question. In the summer will the heat or going swimming give me hives? I been dealing with them for almost a year and usually they just go away by itself but I’m going crazy. I have already visited a doctor and he recommended taking Zyrtec , it’s my first day taking it because in the past I took some other medicine that didn’t work. My concerns are if I should be prepared for the summer? Or with time will they go away for good!

    • Admin says:

      Hi Jackie
Chronic Hives may go away by themselves, could be hormonal. However for many of us chronic hives don’t stop and in some cases get worse due to a toxic build up which makes us hypersensitive hence the reason for our publication. Heat may make your hives worse, but then for some the sun actually helps. You have to treat chronic urticaria from the inside out.
